For the first time in over 4 decades the World Weightlifting Championships return to the United States. The Olympic qualifying event was held November 19 - 28 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.
GVP, in partnership with the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority, raised the bar to create a new standard in the world of Weightlifting by adding to the production value of the event. For the first time in the event's history, a full LED video display was used as the backdrop for each lift. The video display created a presence that energized athletes, pushing them to reach more World Records than ever before.
The viewership was at 1.2 billion, breaking records for the most viewed weightlifting competition to date. If that wasn't enough, Houston also broke records for largest attendance and largest athlete participation. The set design and video display also offered a huge benefit for sponsors who's logos were seen across the globe as acknowledgments appeared on screen between lifts.
All an all, the event was a huge success, and we are so incredibly thankful for the opportunity to get involved by designing the set, providing all the AV, and producing the Opening Ceremony.
